As we step out of our time machine and delve into the heart of the 1970s, we are infected by Azerbaijani musician Habib Mohebian’s suitably contagious anthem.
After immigrating to Iran as a teenager fresh out of high school, Mohebian was chosen by Iranian Radio and Television Broadcasting to participate in a nationwide singing competition. By this time Mohebian’s hands had fixated themselves to a guitar and his passion for music was firmly engrained.
These days he lends his soulful voice to his son Mohamad’s recordings in the US. In 2010 Mohebian visited Tehran and met with Mashaei, Ahmadinejad’s Chief of Staff. Whilst he was in Iran he submitted a request for permission to return there with his son to perform. The request is still pending.
