A series of lucky circumstances made possible the media importance of Los Giovanes. A group of student friends from Córdoba, they sent a tape to TVE (Spain’s public TV broadcaster) and were chosen to play in the TV show Sonría, por favor. They were well received and their popularity exploded, extending their stay on the show for several months and playing in various famous clubs at the same time. All of this enabled the recording of their only EP for RCA, with an outstanding cover of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Watermelon Man’. Fast, with a prominent organ and, unlike the original, in a beat style, the work of their singer (Rafael Ríos, later in Conexión) gives it a personal and distinctive stamp.
