Jorge Reyes, flautist and expert in native Mexican instruments, made his name in Chac Mool. His contribution to the band, like his solo work, gave rise to folk and rock fusion. Ethnic sounds that sought to add the resonances of ancient culture to new Mexican rock. Jorge Reyes was also a great researcher and dedicated some pieces to field recordings that reflect the urban and natural sound universe that inspires much of his musical output. In 1991, a cassette with a collaboration between Jorge Reyes and the Spanish artist Francisco López appeared, the latter known for his compositions based on field recordings inspired by industrial music resonances. “UAISCM4: Tlaloc” was the title of this piece and illustrated the radically experimental side of Reyes’s work. That same year, the Mexican took part in the third edition of the Encuentro de Nueva Música Electrónica, one of many events organised back then in Venezuela, and which brought together different exponents of experimental electronic music from that country, including Musikautomatika and Miguel Noya.
