Catalonia’s Los Polares are one of the small legends of 60s Spanish music. Before releasing what would be their only record featuring the unbelievable cover of The Pretty Thing’s ‘LSD’ under the explicit title of ‘La droga’, the band had worked in Germany, even playing at Hamburg’s legendary Star Club during the winter of 1965. That would explain their boldness to record this classic drug anthem which had suffered censorship problems all over the world. Although they were obviously very careful not to recommend its use, the mere euphoria of its chorus (pronouncing “LSD” in English) was in itself tremendously daring. The legend that surrounds the band says that they released two records in Germany that no one has ever seen... all in good time.
