Perú. Within the core of the tropical music scene, the Sonora de Lucho Macedo stands out clearly; they were the first group of its kind in the middle of an environment exclusively populated by orchestras. The Sonora released more than 80 LPs and countless singles. Of all the ensembles, it had the greatest international projection. Over the years they toured Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. They accompanied Celia Cruz and Bienvenido Granda in their 1955 visits. Besides, exactly two decades later, during the Fania era, they travelled to New York to share a stage with Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Palmieri, Joe Cuba, Jimmy Sabater and their main inspiration, La Sonora Matancera.

Beyond his irrefutable professional merits, Macedo’s essential contribution was to recruit musicians that later on would start the most important boogaloo groups (Joe Di Roma, Ñico Estrada, Mario Cavagnaro, Mario Allison, Coco Lagos, Tito Chicoma, Charlie Palomares etc).
