Nobody knows how this madrileña born in 1936 landed one day in the US, singing, dancing and with a chance to succeed Lupe Vélez or Carmen Miranda as the Latin diva in North American popular culture. Soon she was performing at the Hollywood Bowl, acting alongside Troy Donahue in the successful TV series “Surfside 6” (called “Rompeolas” on Spanish TV at the time) and signing a contract with Warner that she could barely enjoy: in 1963 Margarita “Cha Cha” Sierra died of a heart attack when she was 26 years old, truncating a career that could have put her in competition for the throne of queen of Latin soul.
