Record Store Day 2018

April 21st

April 21st will be 2018’s Record Store Day and we have three special releases to celebrate it. Reissued on vinyl for the first time, Marc Jonson’s debut, “Years”, is a psych folk/baroque pop masterpiece originally released on Vanguard Records in 1972. Just 20 at the time, Jonson wrote and produced a gloriously ambitious record influenced by milestone albums such as “Astral Weeks” and “Forever Changes”, rich in beautiful melodies and poetic lyricism. On Vampisoul, “Takin’ Care Of Business” is a 7” box set with ten singles (and illustrated booklet) featuring brilliant soul, R&B and garage from the Rampart, Faro, Gordo and Linda labels, established by Eddie Davis in East Los Angeles. 20 tracks recorded between 1963 and 1971 by artists such as Little Ray, The Majestics, Barry White & The Atlantics, Sarah James, The Romancers, The Four Tempos, Thee Royal Checkmates… Finally, on Vinilísssimo, the reissue of Djavan’s debut LP, “A voz, o violão, a música de…” (1976), one of the milestones in Brazilian music from the post-bossa nova years. This wonderful album showcases acoustic samba music in full effect, displaying an array of endearing melodies combined with jazzy arrangements and some delightful funky moments.
