Born in the vibrant alternative scene of 1980s S\u00e3o Paulo, Mercen\u00e1rias is an iconic band in the history of Brazilian punk and post-punk. Formed by Sandra Coutinho (bass and vocals), Ros\u00e1lia Munhoz (vocals), Ana Machado (guitar), and Edgard Scandurra (drums), the group stood out for their rebellious attitude, incisive lyrics, and raw sound that blended punk, post-punk, and experimental elements.<\/p>\n
Their debut album, \u201cCad\u00ea as Armas?\u201d (1986), is considered one of the most important records in Brazilian music history. Three years earlier, they recorded their first demo tape at the studio of the funk\/pop band Placa Luminosa. The recording turned out great, it\u2019s the best you can wait from a Brazilian punk record: raw, aggressive, yet catchy, well-played and produced.<\/p>\n
