We are proud to reissue “Eskizofrenia”, Eskorbuto’s first LP from 1985, one of the most influential punk album in the Spanish and Latin American scenes, which showcases what they are known for: radicalism, a self-taught style and crude lyrics. When asked to describe the album tracks in an interview at the time of its release, band member Iosu preferred instead to tell some anecdotes about the band and share his views on a few issues. Some excerpts from that interview give a good idea of what this record and band were about. Many bands have good ideas and I like what they’re saying, but when it comes to it, they’re just a lie.You’re not alive, you’re not dead, just condemned. It’s worrying, you’re part of what you most hate: the system. It’s unbelievable. The earth is a big toilet where we all survive and if it’s flushed we’ll all go to shit.When we were recording ‘Rogad a Dios a los muertos’ and listened to the vocals without music, it seemed like a sort of evil ritual. In a common graveyard you can find all kinds of skeletons; well, almost any kind, because you’re not going to find the skull of a king. Even dead, they have better accommodation.If we’ve used the Simmons electronic drums it’s because it suited us during the recording. If it’s good, hurray for science!I think throwing beer cans to the stage is stupid, I don’t dig that at all because I can be hit. Gobbing doesn’t bother me.The last lyrics we’ve written say: “Ignorant people that were afraid of us before \/ become friendly without our permission \/ cowards pretending to be brave \/ badmouthing us in front of people \/ but careful, we warn you, we’re the same as when we started”.Somebody came looking for us to play at a party that was taking place 200 yards away from our rehearsal space. We loaded up the amps and everything else was ready. The audience started to come in, and what an audience! The average size was ten.In Madrid, many of the graffitis we painted saying ESKORBUTO had written below “sons of bitches”, signed by the JONS (Spanish fascist movement). Very nice of them.In the auditorium of the University of Deusto, we were playing with the band M\u00e9danos de Singapur. We came onstage throwing an iron bar from the second floor, we jumped on and started playing. My guitar only had three strings. People were having fun, someone handed me a penknife to scratch the strings and I threw it against the wall. Estamos orgullosos de reeditar Eskizofrenia, el primer \u00e1lbum de Eskorbuto y uno de los \u00e1lbumes definitivos del punk espa\u00f1ol, de influencia enorme en la escena de aqu\u00ed y Latinoamericana. El disco muestra las se\u00f1as de identidad del grupo: actitud radical, un estilo \u00fanico aprendido por su cuenta y letras crudas y directas. Al ser entrevistado en la revista Muskaria para que describiese las canciones de su nuevo \u00e1lbum en el momento de su publicaci\u00f3n, Iosu prefiri\u00f3 contar algunas an\u00e9cdotas sobre el grupo y compartir su visi\u00f3n sobre ciertos asuntos. Unos extractos de esa entrevista resumen perfectamente qu\u00e9 representaron el LP y esta inimitable banda. Muchos grupos tienen buenas ideas y me gusta lo que dicen pero luego en la pr\u00e1ctica son una mentira. No est\u00e1s vivo, no est\u00e1s muerto, simplemente condenado. Es preocupante; t\u00fa formas parte de lo que m\u00e1s odias: el sistema. Es incre\u00edble. La tierra es un gran v\u00e1ter en donde todos subsistimos, y si se tira de la cisterna nos vamos a la mierda. Cuando est\u00e1bamos en la grabaci\u00f3n de ‘Rogad a Dios por los muertos’ y o\u00edamos la voz sin m\u00fasica, parec\u00eda algo as\u00ed como un rito diab\u00f3lico. En un cementerio popular puedes encontrar todo tipo de esqueletos; bueno, casi todos, porque la calavera de un rey por supuesto que no. Hasta muertos tiene mejor alojamiento. Si hemos usado la bater\u00eda electr\u00f3nica Simmons ha sido porque nos conven\u00eda en la grabaci\u00f3n. Si es buena, \u00a1viva la ciencia! Me parecen una gilipollez las latas de cerveza que se tiran a un escenario, no me enrollan nada porque me pueden dar. Los escupitajos no me molestan. La \u00faltima letra que hemos hecho dice: Gentes ignorantes que antes nos ten\u00edan miedo \/ cogen confianza que nunca les dimos \/ cobardes que van de valientes \/ hablando mal de nosotros ante la gente \/ pero cuidado, os avisamos, somos los mismos que cuando empezamos. Alguien nos vino a buscar para que toc\u00e1ramos en una fiesta que se iba a realizar en un colegio a 200 metros m\u00e1s arriba de donde ensay\u00e1bamos. Subimos los amplis y ya estaba lo dem\u00e1s preparado. Comenz\u00f3 a entrar p\u00fablico, \u00a1qu\u00e9 p\u00fablico! La media era de diez a\u00f1os. En Madrid, en muchas de las pintadas que escribimos ESKORBUTO debajo de ellas pon\u00eda hijos de puta, firmado las JONS. Todo un detalle. En el paraninfo de la Universidad de Deusto toc\u00e1bamos junto con Medanos de Singapur. Salimos a escena soltando un hierro desde el segundo piso, saltamos y empezamos a tocar. Yo solo ten\u00eda tres cuerdas en la guitarra. La gente se divert\u00eda, alguien me dej\u00f3 una navaja para raspar las cuerdas y la tir\u00e9 contra la pared.
