To celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, we’re releasing two tracks off our forthcoming Abelardo Carbonó compilation, “El maravilloso mundo de”, as a limited 7″. Recorded in the early 1980s, these two tracks are just a small example of the genius of Colombia’s Abelardo Carbonó, one of the most original and unique musicians in Latin America. His music, which could be described as “proto champeta”, is the result of many influences: Congolese music, cumbia, disco, Afrobeat, pop, Haitian compas, psychedelic guitar… Abelardo’s trademark is the ability to recycle bits of just about anything into a captivating rhythmic groove which has no equal.
