In recording the album collaborated Roger Waters, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Robert Wyatt, Hugh Hopper and Mike Ra.

One of the most important cult records of the last century, the first LP of ex-Pink Floyd leader Syd Barrett was the result of a tortuous recording process, due mainly to Barrett’s estate and his sometimes erratic and unpredictable behaviour. After initial sessions in 1968 with Peter Jenner and in 1969 with Malcolm Jones, the recording was finished with help from Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Among the musicians who collaborated were Robert Wyatt, Hugh Hopper and Mike Ratledge from Soft Machine and Shirley from Humble Pie. I wanted it to be a whole thing that people would listen to all the way through with everything related and balanced, the tempos and moods offsetting each other, and I hope that’s what it sounds like. Syd Barrett, 1971

Syd Barrett was an English musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist, and painter, best remembered as a founder member of the band Pink Floyd. After leaving Pink Floyd, Barrett distanced himself from the public eye and he embarked on a brief solo career, releasing two solo albums, 'The Madcap Laughs' and 'Barrett' (both 1970), and a single, "Octopus".
